Why I call myself a Gamer

Embrace yourself, long blogpost (and hopefully not too many spelling mistakes) incoming!

I know some people might look at me and are all like: "You can't be a gamer! You're just a cute wannabe gamergirl!"
When I hear someone call me a wannabe, I get sad (and a little angry). I can see it when they look at a girl that screams for attention just for playing Call of Duty or League of Legends, but I'm not another one of those.
I'll tell you my story from start to present!

When I was 6 years old, my mother left my dad, and found a new man. That man owned a NES with Mario and Ninja Turtles. Don't remember which of the Ninja Turtles it was, but I really enjoyed playing it, even though I didn't make it through the first map x)
He also had a son, and he was like PRO in playing Super Mario Bros, and I remember I always wanted to be as good as he was. We also played one of those Olympic games together. He didn't live with us, but with his mother. But he used to come visit some weekends here and there.
But as the years passed the old NES couldn't take it anymore, and I'm not sure if it still works today.

At my 8th birthday I got my first Gameboy, the pink Gameboy Color, with Pokémon Red! I was so excited; I could now take my games with me wherever I went! And I also LOVED Pokémon at that time (I still do!)
Some time later I got another game for my lovely best bud; Mario Land. I played the crap out of that game, even though I was still playing alot on my Pokémon Red. My family was poor, so I didn't get many games either, so I had to do the best out of what I actually got.

A few years later our family moved again, and I lost my Gameboy :/ I remember I used to cry myself to sleep some night because I missed my precious Gameboy (yeah, I was kinda addicted to Pokémon). Some time later my mom gave me a new Gameboy color, a transparent purple one. She also gave me a new Pokémon game, since she knew I loved the other one, but this one was Yellow. Geez, I remember how happy I was. I could play with Pikachu, just like in the TV show! So Exciting!
But I still missed my Mario game, though. So some more time later I got the Super Mario Bros. Deluxe for the Gameboy color. I plugged it in, and when I started playing the first map I ran to my mom and screamed: "MOM! This is the same game as we used to play on the Tv game box!" (I didn't know any better at that time, silly me). I was so excited! Now I could finally beat my step brother in this game!
After half a year I found my old gameboy, and decided to give the old one to my younger sister, along with Mario Land.

At the same time as these things happened, my dad got himself a computer. So whenever I was visiting him, he let me play games and draw things in paint. I remember he was so proud of my first drawing with the pc mouse :)
I have no idea what my first pc game was, but I remember I used to play a game called "Meteor". I didn't really know how to play it, though, I just ran around shooting everything I came across. I also remember playing Tomb Raider 3, 102 Dalmatians, Mission Kellog's, an loads of other games. I also loved a game called Elf bowling 2. It was hilarious!

As the years passed, I began to play more on the pc, since my dad bought a new one so I could use his old one when I was there. I used less time playing on my gameboy at that time, and started focusing more on drawings. The gameboy was also taken from me alot, since apparently I didn't listen to my mom and step-dad... Well, I was young, and I didn't feel like they treated me right, what was I supposed to do?

Some years later, I think I was 12, my dad gave me my first OWN pc, which I got to take to my mom. At that time I began to learn about pirated games. Like I said earlier, my parents were poor, so I guess that was their solution to give me what I wished for the most. I was often begging my dad for new pc games, but he often had to say no because he couldn't afford it. He had a huge loan for buying a house. My mom didn't seem to want to put any effort into my new hobby, so no help from that part of the family.
In this period I discovered the Emulators, and I was obsessed with all the Pokémon games I could play there. I also had my first encounter with The Legend of Zelda on my N64 emulator. I had no idea what kind of game this was, so I just thought it was just another one of the hard games I'd never get the grip of.
I don't remember all the games I played at that time, but I can recall a Bleach game, a RPG game which I didn't understand anything of since it was Japanese (which I've found out is called "Knockin' on Heavens door", pretty good game), a Naruto game, Yu-Gi-Oh!, and lots more, even a Negima game! Many of them were Japanese so I didn't understand much :p
In the whole bunch with Japanese and emulator games I got The Sims 2, but cracked. I always wanted to have the real copy 'cause I felt it was more right to have it legally. I also played alot of Croc 2 and Elf Bowling 2 :p  What's up with me and only own the 2nd game in gameseries? Lol!

Some years later my step-dad caught me playing games late one evening. I was supposed to be in bed around 10-11, so he was pretty angry to find me awake around 12. He got so angry he just snapped the electrical power cable out of the outlet, and I screamed at him. He didn't know that when he did that he could damage my pc's internal power supply. I was crying as I felt the smell of burnt dust ooze out from my pc. I screamed at him again and jumped into my bed crying. I told him I hate him and he slammed the door behind him. After he was gone I jumped out of the bed and tried to plug in the cable and start my pc again. It wouldn't turn on again... He had destroyed my power supply, and I couldn't play any more on my pc.

I was now stuck with my drawings and Gameboy Color for a year or so. My days were grey, I often just sat there staring in the wall. I was bored. I wanted to play all the fun games I used to play on my pc.
Then it came to my Confirmation day (you know, all this church ritualish things etc), and I got a huge present from my dad. I think I already knew what I was getting from him, but I was still happy as I could be. My dad gave me a new computer! And as a surprise from my step-granny I got my first legal copy of The Sims 2! Both my dad and step-granny got a huge hug, and I cried of happiness.
After some time my step-brother came to visit again and he showed me Counter Strike 1.6. I didn't know how to play it, so I barely tried to. x) I remember not understanding anything whenever I planted a bomb and the game was over. Like, wtf just happened?

A year later I finally got to move to my dad. That had been my biggest wish since me and my mom moved out. My dad had found love through the internet, and she played alot of interesting game too! She was the one who gave me the cracked version of The Sims 2.

I was happy, went to High school where I could draw as much as I wanted, and my dad always cared for me when I came home. I was also getting into manga and anime, so I felt the world was opening up for me to discover more.
I found out there was more emulators to try, and alot of new games was unlocked for me. My step-mom also owned a Playstation 2 with a few games, including Need for Speed Most Wanted and GTA San Andreas. I was playing those games alot, and almost forgot about the whole pc for a period as I got to buy and play Kingdom Hearts. Oh, I loved that game, and still do! I also bought Guitar Hero 3, and I enjoyed playing that as well, but I always just played it for a while before going back to Kingdom Hearts.
After almost a year I got my first real boyfriend. He was playing alot of games too, and here comes my first meeting with Left 4 Dead and Final Fantasy X! Two of my favorite games. :)
From here on I've just extended my game-library as I've walked. I started playing Maplestory through a friend, tried World of Warcraft thanks to a stupid ex (my 2nd boyfriend) that only cared about that game at that time, Minecraft from another of my exes, and Battlefield from the 4th one. today I play more than just Pokémon and Mario, and I'm eager to try new games as they come by. I currently have a notebook for all the games I'm currently working my way through, and I think I got 4-5 pages filled up atm :X
I'm also doing walkthroughs of some of my favorite games on Youtube

I haven't played all the Final Fantasy games, or all the Zelda games, but I DO love playing games! And I've had a passion for it ever since I got the first touch of it. Some people may think I'm addicted to gaming... Maybe I am? All I do know is that gaming makes me happy, even when I'm on my worst.

So now I'll ask you... Would you consider me a gamer?

Until next time~!

Pokémon X & Y - My expectations

As you all know, I've been a fan of Pokémon since it all came to Norway in the middle 90's. My first game was Red on my Gameboy Color I got for my 8th birthday. Now I'm 22 and the 6th gen pokémons are coming, and I can't help thinking; "Will these games be any good? Black and White 1 & 2 was a huge disappointment after all..." So here comes my views and expectations for the new games: Pokémon X and Pokémon Y!

First we take all the good things about the new gen.
The starters don't look too bad, and as many of you might already know; I love fire-starters! So I always start with a fire-type! So for me it will be a Fennekin, no doubt about that. And I love foxes, so it just fits perfectly (compared to the pig "Tepig" in Black and White, didn't like that one at first). Chespin is also kinda cute, so I actually considered to choose a leaf starter for once! And that is rather rare for me.

Next up is: YOU CAN CHOOSE FROM ONE OF THE 1st GEN STARTERS EARLY IN THE GAME AS AN ADDITIONAL POKÉMON! (Sorry for aggressively use of capslock, I'm just excited)
Charmander, I choose you! The starters from first gen are really hard to get now as black/white had no transfer system for the GBA games, so you'd have to trade from Firered/Leafgreen to Diamond (or any of the other DS games), then from one of those to Black/White, and now you'd have to transfer further from Black/White to X/Y. And since the bank system that X/Y (and later games) uses for transfer from are not yet available at release, you'd have to wait over a month to actually get those pokémons transferred! Yes, the banks aren't available until sometime in December.

You know I play lots of different MMOs and The Sims, right? But you don't know why?
I love to create characters! And Pokémon X and Y are adding the Character customization! Finally! I don't know much about this, but this is probably what I look most forward to. I can finally build my own trainer!

Rollerskates are also pretty cool! :)

And the things I'm not excited nor angry about;
- New Pokémons. O'RELY?? I didn't think that would happen! lol
- 8 directions to walk.
- The new type: Fairy. You know, there is always new types to be added, and this one is to tone down on all the dragon-lovers.
- Sky battles. Looks cool, but I don't really care...
- 3D effect. As long as the gameplay and Pokémon-feel is still there, I don't care much about that either. x)
- Player search system. Sounds like a more crowded pokémon world. I like the sound of that :) Wish there were an official MMO out, though. PokéMMO works!
- Mounting pokémons. Looks cool, but got some mixed feelings about it. To know why, continue reading...
- Playing with you're pokémon. It's been done before, in Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance.
- Horde Encounters. Not much to say... Just hope you don't meet Zubats :p

And here comes my hate and rage... The things I really dislike about the new games are...

MEGAEVOLUTIONS! Oh god, WHY? This is a totally cheap ripoff from Digimon! Admit it, you were thinking the same too!It looks cool, but it KINDA ruins the whole EVOLVE thing with pokémon. Ok, it's something new and fresh, but... Couldn't you do anything better? And you don't really need to do anything huge with the old pokémons every new generation... Well, that's my opinion. HATERS GONNA HATE!

Jumping over the ledges... THE WRONG WAY! This has ALWAYS been one of the big challenges in the pokémon games. And it never changed... Until now! It's like a natural rule in the game-series! D: This new feature was a huge disappointment and a ragebutton for me at first, but I've calmed down a little... I just hope they've put this feature late in the game or something...

After writing all this I'm now ready for Pokémon X & Y. I just hope and pray to god that they don't mess up this game as they did with Black & White.

So...
I'm getting X, which one are you getting? ^^

Remember Me

Since I've been so busy with work and such lately, I've had no time to write about this game until now.
Now, let's see what I think about

This is one of the best games I've played this year, that's for sure. I also loved Evoland, which I'm gonna write about later, but Remember Me had such a great style and story. Now I might sound a little too overoptimistic about this game, but it do have it's flaws and it's not perfect. But it touched me in that really special way that only a few games do. :)

About the story; Your name is Nilin, and you live in the age 2084. The technology has reached the point where you can trade and store memories. But the people behind this technology is not really the good guys. Nilin is a memory hunter who was imprisoned for her activity as an so-called errorist (which is a group of memory hunters). Her memories was drained, and now she only knows her own name. Your task throughout the game is to regain all her memories and find out who she really is...

When it comes to the fighting system, which is something new for a change, it was kinda hard for me to get it at first. But your building your own combos which has their own preset button-layout. The only thing you gotta do is to fill in each of the buttons with a type of attack/buff. Kinda confusing at first, but when you get the hang of it, you'll own every badguy you meet.

You also got these memorymixingparts, but there is like 3-4 of them. And there is not much to say about it either. But you go into someones memory and mix it by changing specific parts of the memory to edit the outcome. you gotta play it for yourself to understand any of this, I guess. x)

So what do I think about this game? Let's see...

- Great graphics! I didn't really expect anything great since this game wasn't hyped much. But the graphics in this game is actually pretty nice. You can see the rain pouring, and the ground is wet because of the rain etc. The face-expressions was also pretty accurate, and you could almost feel what they felt thanks to the great combination of the animations and the voice-acting.

- I love the background music! I've been trying to find this OST everywhere, and I finally found it on Spotify. The soundtracks for this game is relaxing but cool at the same time. I really enjoyed fighting as the music changed according to how good/bad I did in the fight. And it's also music you'll enjoy listening to outside of the game, and just float away in your own thoughts.

- Bad camera controls at times... Which is not fun if you fight a boss or something... But this didn't ruin the whole gameplay, thank God! It only happens at small fighting-areas, so it's not THAT bad :)

- The story was really good. You should play this game!

Well, I guess this is all I wanna say about this game :p And I really recommend this game to anyone, actually.
Come to me and tell me what you think about it yourself when you're done playing it ;p

Until next time~!

FAQ/Q&A @ Kori #1

I get alot of the same questions from time to time, and I guess I should answer to all of them here. :) I'll post 10 question on each of these posts to make it as simple as possible. This might be changed to Q&A or something later :3

1: How old are you?

I'm born 15th April 1991, so right now I'm 22 :)

2: What are your pc specs?

Right now:

- ASUS M5A97 R2.0, Socket-AM3+

- AMD FX-8350 8-Core Processor
Kingston DDR3 HyperX 1600 MHz 16GB Black
- XFX Radeon HD 6950 2BG (Planning on upgrading to 7950 3GB when I get the money for it)
- Cooler Master GX 750W PSU
- 4 different sized HDD (7000rpm), no SSD yet
- In-Win Dragon Rider Big Tower Black
- A 1080p AOC screen 24"

External stuff:
- Logitech G19 keyboard
- Logitech Optical Gaming Mouse G400
Logitech HD Webcam C270
- Wacom Intous 4 (wired)
- Some random speakers I dunno the name of x)

So now you got my whole setup right there! ^^

3: How long have you been drawing?

For as long as I can remember :) I started drawing my first comic at the age of 10. It was a Pokémon fancomic where I was the main character xD I'm considering on continue drawing it :)

4: What tools do you use to draw?

When I'm drawing by hand I only use regular pencils and ballpoint pens. When it comes to digital drawing I use my Intous 4 drawing tablet and SAI Paint Tool. I barely use photoshop since I never got in to it and SAI is easier to use for drawing.

5: Isn't it hard to draw with a tablet on the pc?

Well, I used to have problems controlling the pointer at the beginning, but after some training I got better ^^
I've been using a tablet for over 2 years now, and still get stuck sometimes 'cause my brain won't co-operate xD So, like i said, you get used to it :)

6: What programs do you use for recording and video-editing?

I use Fraps to record gameplay, and the already installed recording program for my voice. I used Fraps for the voice before aswell, but it tends to work as it pleases. So I had to record it by itself. I also use the autorecorded material from Livestreams sometimes, and that is recorded with the Livestream Procaster when I go live^^
When it comes to cam recording I used the program that follows with the webcam I own. It's easy to use and works great ^^
In the future I might start recording gameplay on the Xbox 360, and then I'll use our HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition to record ^^ Unfortunately it doesn't co-operate well with the Playstation 3, so not much gaming on that one x) (I personally don't like the PS3 much, tbh)
The editing program I'm using is Sony Vegas Pro 10. It's a pain when it comes to rendering, but I just  kill that time with drawing and smaller games that doesn't take up too much of the pc x) It gives me good quality with high resolution, perfect for Youtube^^

7: Are you single?

Most of you guys should know this already; I'm NOT single xD And I don't think I'll be single for a while either :p I'm currently living a happy life with Rin ^^ <3

8: How did you come up with the name "Korishiva" and what does it mean?

Well, when I was starting to learn japanese I wanted a name for my Naruto OC (which was basically me). So I mixed up "konnichi wa" with my real name (which I hate and won't tell). And it ended up as Korishiva. As far as I know "Kori" means ice (a friend told me so dunno if it's correct), and "Shiva" is a God. So... It means Icegodess, maybe? Dunno. it's just my nickname, and I like it, so really don't care if it means anything special xD

9: Do you have any sisters or brothers?

I got 2 sisters and 3 brothers, all younger than me and with a different father x) So, yeah... 5 half siblings :p

10: What is your favorite game?

That is a really hard question...And it really depends on my mood and the genre of the different game. But to make it easy for both you and myself, I'll tell my favorite game for each genre.

RPG: The Kingdom Hearts series! Because the whole series is good! And right after comes Final Fantasy X, which is my favorite FF game. Love the story and the gameplay is plain and easy.

FPS: Hard one, since I'm mainly a FPSgamer... But I think I'll place Bioshock at the top there. The whole series is fantastic, and i really enjoyed Infinite. Next on the list is Borderlands. Love the gameplay and the style. Left 4 dead is still on my mind, but I've grown tired now after about 700 hours of playing the game x) But it'll always stay in my heart as the first FPS game I ever played :)

MMO: Maplestory! It's the only game that have made me addicted! And  it's kinda scary ><

Horror: Dunno if there are an own genre for horror games, but I love games such as Silent Hill, so I wanted to put those games here aswell :)

Retro: I bet you're thinking right now is "Where is Pokémon? Don't you like the Pokémongames?". Well, here they are, in the retro genre, since I prefer the old games in front of any of the new ones. My personal favorite is either Yellow or Crystal. I also love Emerald, but not as much as these! I also love the Super Mario Bros for the NES. Good memories fills my heart with happiness! <3

I can't decide on only 1 favorite game, because I love so many different games. If you are a true gamer yourself you won't have only 1 favorite aswell ;)

So here you got your first 10 frequently asked question about me. If you want answers about anything else, feel free to ask me right here: http://www.formspring.me/korishiva

Until next time ~!

The Saw movies

My first blogpost about my opinion about a movie (or movie series), and I choose a movie series I just finished watching:

My friends knows I'm pretty fragile to gory movies, but I guess this has changed... Alot!
For those who doesn't know; Saw is a bloody/gory movie series that have a slight connection between all 7 movies. The overall main thing in these movies is about people getting traped and basically tested how much they are willing to do to live. And most of the test are PRETTY brutal. It's about cutting of limbs, flesh, filling bottles with blood and stuff like that. How they survive? By simply follow Jigsaw's rules. And who is this Jigsaw? Well, he's the one traping everyone, but I won't tell you too much, I suggest you watch the movies insread. If you dare :p

Well anyways, what do I think about these movies you wonder?
I didn't really like gory movies before the first movie, and I was pretty nervous because I usually faint at the sight of blood (at least IRL blood). So I sat there, ready to hide my eyes from the gory scenes. But I guess I actually got more excited than scared, since I watched the rest of the movies within the next 2 weeks xD
So, yeah, I could say I actually loved those movies! ^w^ I wish there were more of this series!
Not because of the gore, though :p The story and the mindfuck you get from watching these movies is what appealed to me the most. I love everything that needs me to observe and think alot, and these movies needs your attention if you're going to understand anything of the main plot :p

Well, it's not much I can tell about movies without spoiling too much, it's not like blogging about games, where I "rate" the different categories (graphics, story etc). But what I actuallt can say is that if you like thrilling movies with gore and a plot that's twisty, this might be a movie series for you :3
if you've already seen all 7 movies, what do you think about them? Feel free to comment! ^^

Next movie/game/anime/series?
We'll see. I've started watching the "Wrong Turn" movies, and I think I want to write something about "Wreck it Ralph" since I really enjoyed that movie. I've also started watching "The Walking Dead" and currently playing "Monster Hunter Tri" (pretty excited about "Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate which is released March 22nd in Europe).
So I have a few thing to write about. Any requests? Speak up!

Until next time~!

New ideas and partnership!

Hei guys!
I haven't really done anything else than reviewing games and talking about myself on this blog, so I guess I should make a quick update on my life and new plans/ideas. ^^

So I guess this blog is maybe focusing too much on games, so I was thinking; maybe I should start reviewing movies and series and such. Maybe that would be more interesting to more people. I've been watching alot of different series and movies lately, so I was thinking I should write about it all. ^^
What do you guys think? Should I start reviewing more variable things instead of just games? I've actually started reading one of my favorite book series again, so maybe I should write about those when I'm finished too. The series is called Animorphs, maybe you've heard of it :D

Anyways, another new thing is *drumroll* I've finally got partnered on Youtube! ^^
That means I get to do the following things:
- I can make my own custommade thumbnails for each video (which is actually really fun!)
- I can earn money! I don't earn much yet, though, but I can make a little which i can save for buying better microphone etc. *thumbs up*
- I can link annotatipons to my associated websites or merch partners. Not sure what that means, but it's for partners only, I think :3

So now I'm pretty happy^^ And from the Desucon post, you might be wondering; How's your lovelife these days? Weeeeell, it's kinda personal, but I can say that I haven't felt better in my life^^ For valentines day we went to this chinese restaurantant in town and ordered some noodles, walked around together, held hands, and at the end of the evening we went to see "A good day to Die Hard" on the cinema^^
Being with Rin is almost like being with my best friend. We play games together, we watch the same series/movies, and generally do stuff together almost all the time x) When the snow is gone, we're gonna train together too :3

Other than all this I'm planning on trying to be more active on my blog and Youtube! ^^ If you guys agree that bloging about series and movies and other stuff sounds like a good idea, I guess I should blog more x)

Well anywayz, gotta go now! ^^
Until next time~!

Borderlands

Long time no see! So, Borderlands 2 have come out now and I want to write about it as soon as I finish it, but first I guess I should write about what I think of the first game! :D

Borderlands was a really fun game I really enjoyed playing, and I still enjoy playing. I got it sometime in 2009 (I think), but I've still not finished every single thing in the whole game or the DLCs. Only DLC I've finished is "The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned",  I started on the "Mad Moxxi Underdome Riot", and finished the story missions for "Claptrap's New Robot Revolution". And I've beaten the last boss in the basic game. But that's about it.

But over to something else. If you haven't played Borderlands before you might wonder "What kind of game is this?"
Borderlands is a FPS RPG. You can choose between 4 playable characters which represent 4 different classes. We got;

Mordecai - Hunter. His special ability is a bird he can upgrade to attack and give you loot. His special weapons are snipers and revolvers. Read more about him here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Mordecai

Lilith - Siren. Her special ability is the phasewalk. She goes into a halfinvisible state and can transfer elemental effects onto the enemies and deal damage that way. Her special weapons are SMGs and elemental weapons. Read more about her here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Lilith

Roland - Solider. His special ability is his turret. He can upgrade it so he can heal players when shooting at them, and to make the turret drop supplies. His special weapons are shotguns and combatrifles. Read more about him here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Roland

Brick - Berserker. His special bility is to punch the enemies and become more resistant to damage. He can be upgraded to deal more damage and endure more. His special weapons are explosives, and his special ability; the berserkermode. Read more about him here: http://borderlands.wikia.com/wiki/Brick

Borderlands is also a game for it's guns. I'm not kidding, there is alot of guns in this game! Many of them might look alike, but there is more than 2 000 000 different builds on the weapons! This makes it really varying and each weapon also have different bonuses. That can be different effects, like fire/lightning/corrosive/explosive effects. These are really handy in some cases, since some of the enemies are weak to the different effects. And it's really fun to see burning enemies run around like crazy! :p

Let's see, what more can I say? CARS! You can drive around in the world after completing spesific missions. They're not a huge part of the game, though, but it's fun to drive around like a boss and run over a few enemies :p

The game has 4 fun DLCs:
- The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned
- Mad Moxxi Underdome Riot
- The Secret Armory of General Knoxx
- Claptrap's New Robot Revolution
But you don't need to buy every single DLC if you get your hands on a "Borderlands Game of the year Edition" for around 30€, then you get everything! :D

Ok, so the basic about the game is told, I guess. Let's see what I think overall on the game!

- The fun cartoonish graphics style! It's not often you see games with these kind of graphics. This was really interesting for me who is really interested in high graphics. The style is pretty original and comforting to look at. It makes you feel like you're in another world, which you're supposed to be. :)

- The weird storyline is actually kind of awesome in it's own way. I won't spoil anything, but the story have it's emotional parts, and it's fun parts. The game is based alot on humor, and I guess that's one of the main reasons I love this game! <3

- Loveable characters! The character design is just lovable! Enough said (without spoiling things).

- Fun DLCs! The DLCs are totally worth it in my opinion! There is so many missions and bonus stories by playing them, lots of new weapons too!So I recommend buying the GOTY version of the game if you don't own it already :D

Well, i guess this is all I got for this game :D
Now I need to edit a few more videos for youtube^^ I got partnered a few days ago, so I'm pretty excited^^

Until next time~!
